My Flying 2021 - (2013,14,15,16)

Welcome to my flying 2021 page. It has been 10 years since I updated my personal flying page, no I have not stopped flying. Work, other hobbies and flying projects have taken up all my spare time something had to give and I decided to stop updating my website. This did upset Iasem in my office as when ever he sees me he just shouts "When are you updating your website Captain". So here you are Iasem an update.

My plan is to fill in a few of the years as time allows, my memory of updating the pages and what I did also!
So while that happens here is a few highlights.

I got the Great Lakes flying and have been flying it for the past 10 years. Not as much as had hoped especially recently so reluctantly I will be selling her when she has been serviced and polished.

Flying project wise after the Great Lakes I got a friends RV4 that he had started into my workshop to help him progress the build. The RV4 is a VERY SLOW build kit and after it went back to the owner it stalled again. A few years ago I took it over again and I am pleased to say we are at the point of applying for a permit to fly very soon. This has been a long slow build with many hurdles.

Next I helped a friend with his Murphy Rebel that got into a fight with the ground.

Then there was the big fun project. A friend of mine was keen on getting a Cub Crafters Carbon Cub. There had never been one built in the UK before so required getting it through certification with the Light Aircraft Association. Happily she is flying now.

I have passed 1000 hrs P1, have my seaplane rating and I have been approved to be an LAA Inspector. Currently my certification permits me to sign permit renewals on metal framed Lycoming engine aircraft. Not new builds, but hopefully that will come in the future.

Project time. A few years ago I came across a Vans RV8 kit that had been stored for a while hardly touched. Quick build fuselage and slow build wings. I have stored it for a few years to get the Carbon Cub and then my friends RV4 finished. I am now on the case. The empannage had been started by the previous owner. 2013 - My Flying

I did some great flying in a friends Cessna 182 in Florida, great weather and so many airfields to visit BIG and small. I completed my IMC (Instrument) and Night ratings, the instrument rating was quite a challenge, the night rating was good fun. One reason for the night rating was for flying in the USA. I hold an FAA license based on my UK license and it always confused the Americans when I said I could not fly at night - as the FAA PPL license permits night. So I decided to get Night and Instruments on my UK license

2014 - My Flying

John came over from the USA and at last he had the chance to fly in my RV7, he even got to see a Spitfire. Did quite a few hours in my Great Lakes this year also.

2015 - My Flying

Some flying with Matt while we discuss building a Carbon Cub. I got to fly the demo Carbon Cub at the LAA rally.

2016 - My Flying

This year some nice flying in my Great Lakes. I passed 400 hrs in my RV7. A friend of mine bought a Cri-Cri or as Jo calls it a Crikey. The smallest twin engined aircraft you can buy. David moves from White Waltham into the hangar bay next to me with his Great Lakes so we have the two of them together for a while.
Friends visit from the USA for Xmas and I take Logan for a trip in RV7 - too cold for the Great Lakes.

	2017 - My Flying Nick comes flying. I like to take friends flying but we are all busy and the I like to hae good weather when taking people new to flying in small aircraft up. They get to see more and we are not rushing home dodging weather. Passed a 1000 flying hours with Jo. Otherwise busy building Carbon Cub. 2018 - My Flying BIG ONE this year. Matt and I headed off to Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Florida to train for out Seaplane rating. This was some of the hardest flying both of us had done in our flying so far.

	Cub Crafters Carbon Cub This is the first Cub Crafters Carbon Cub to be built in the UK. Matt and I took two years from delivery of the kit to getting into the air. Big fat tyres just what you need for Hampshire. Carbon Cub Just looks so good from this angle with carbon prop, a real face to the cub. Just saying come fly me. The Cub was painted by our friend Reg Stratton who sadly passed away November 2021. He will be sorely missed but he has left behind some lovely aircraft he has restored over the years. Hangar filling up I lost the use of the hangar I finished off the Cub in so having to finish off the RV4 in my main hanager on the airfield. This has slowed progress but that seems to be the way it goes with this RV4. Oshkosh 2019 I finally made it to Oshkosh in 2019. I have been to Sun N Fun a few times but never Oshkosh. After the first day Matt and I were having dinner when he looked at his watch and said "So how many steps do you think we did today?........ 24'000". Booked to go back this year.
